How often do you eat breakfast?

How often do you eat breakfast?

Take our poll .. How often do you eat breakfast?

Then .. tell us either "what" you had for breakfast OR your "favorite" breakfast. Perhaps we can come up with enough different ideas to create a Health Page for later reference.

IF YOU'RE NOT EATING BREAKFAST .. here is some information that may change your mind!

1. EATING BREAKFAST KEEPS US THIN. The National Weight Control Registry has compiled information from more than 3,000 people who have lost at least 60 pounds and kept it off for an average of 6 years. Feedback from those individuals showed that eating breakfast daily was a weight control strategy for 78% of the people in the registry. Those participants who experienced long-term success also shared that they eat a diet low in fat and exercise for an hour or more each day. Interestingly .. less than 5% of those who achieved success reported never eating breakfast. READ MORE...

Ironically, when I was in my early twenties, I skipped breakfast and ate a tiny lunch and had a big supper - however, I was very skinny (but being young was probably a factor). I was also a working girl, 9:00 to 5:00.

Now, of course, I'm middle-aged and not anywhere near as skinny (perimenopause and high estrogen probably, but not good to be too skinny at this age, in any case), but I can't do without breakfast. If I don't have breakfast, I don't have energy, my blood sugar is sometimes low and I feel less than content. I like to eat much heavier earlier in the day (breakfast and lunch) and skip supper or eat very lightly at night (which is the option I usually choose). I am carb-conscious, but not to the extreme. I am always somewhat weight-conscious, but again not to the extreme that I was in my younger years. Life is too short, I've relaxed my standards, and I'm content for the most part. I don't envy younger, thinner people. I know life is still ahead of them and it is not always and easy road to travel. I'm glad I've walked most of the road and I'm still in one piece. ;-)

I have to have breakfast and definitely something with protein. Usually I have two hard boiled eggs with toast and a bit of fruit. I truly believe that it sets your metabolism for the day. On the rare occasions I eat something sugary or something with white flour, I always crash and end up eating to up my blood sugar.

Its a great informative article. Well I also heard that skipping breakfast can damage your memory as we do lots of things only in morning. One should never skip meal at least not skip breakfast.

Breakfast is one meal I never skip, not only does it set me up for the day ahead. It also helps to give my metabolism a much needed boost.
People who skip breakfast to lose weight, are uneducated and by doing so they are making it easier for there bodies to put on weight. Your ultimate goal should be to build up an active metabolic rate one which burns off many calories throughtout the day and by skipping breakfast you are not going to do this.

before i don't take breakfast but as I'm reading about weight loss i read lots of articles on how important the breakfast is. sometimes what you think is right can harm you right away.

nice post very informative. it's true that skipping breakfast is not healthy. Researchers have repeatedly shown that people who eat breakfast have a better chance of losing weight, and keeping it off.

This gives me the chance to relate my success-story: I lost 25-30 pounds 7 years ago, and have kept the weight off. But the fact that I've succeeded where most people fail doesn't stop the "experts" from scolding me for daring to buck conventional wisdom.

I don't eat breakfast.
I don't eat lunch.
I don't swallow the claims that this is bad for my health.

Many people prefer to scold than stopping to consider something that may help them. But doesn’t my success in an area dominated by soul-crushing failure indicate you should consider my points?
My own story of weight loss is, of course, anecdotal, so how about some research that supports my claims: first, Dr. David Levitsky, professor of nutrition at Cornell, conducted a controlled study where subjects skipped breakfast. They ate more than they usually would at lunch, but not enough to make up the difference. There was a net loss in caloric intake. Dr. Mark Mattson of the National Institute of Aging had subjects skip breakfast and lunch, then had them a prescribed, full day’s allotment of calories worth at dinner. They neither gained nor lost weight, but his opinion was that if left on their own they’d eat less for dinner. That’s my experience. Exercise discipline and don’t eat junk-food (except occasionally), and you won’t eat more throughout the course of the day. Just make sure you have a good selection of assorted, nutritious foods for your one meal.
As for metabolism: one’s basal-rate of metabolism never stops, but it does decrease while sleeping. It’s true that eating can increase it – through what’s called thermogenesis – but then so can drinking a glass of cold water.
My routine is tough at first to get used to, but I think many can relate to how you get into a “zone” where you just don’t feel hungry. Today I ran 11 miles/17.7K on an empty stomach (btw- I’m not lying; I have better things to do than misrepresent myself on an internet forum). When I finished at about 1, I had plenty of fluids, but no food. Yeah, yeah, I’ve heard it all about how “bad” that is for you. Talk to the hand. I’m right on this; I’m TELLING you. I’m not going to claim it’s the ONLY way to lose weight, but long-term success stories are rare, so I’m clearly doing something right. And I feel utterly confident that the “Breakfast is the most important meal” canard will be revised, as part of ongoing scientific inquiry, in due course.

Now, perusing this site, I'm making note of the incredible acheivement of this blogger. Congratulations on that. Do what works for you, just as I'm doing what's worked for me (not nearly as much weight, but have also succeeded in the long term). If other readers are frustrated in their efforts, I hope I've given them food for thought, so to speak.

It's a big no-no to skip breakfast especially when you are planning to lose weight. The right thing to do is eat a full breakfast and small lunch and dinner. I have been doing this for several months now together with the acupressure I learned from my EFT training.

So interesting about the importance of eating breakfast, I think that explains my loss of energy in the early afternoon.

I was wondering if you could go in more depth about what type of breakfasts are best to eat. I have been reading about the Power of Vegetables over on Emotional Brain Training News and I was just wondering if there was any cross over there.

Thanks for your advice!

I make sure that I eat breakfast before going to work. It helps myself to concentrate and focus on my work. And I believed that breakfast is one of the most important meal of the day. So, don't skip breakfast.

Breakfast is the key to any weight loss goals. If you don't eat any breakfast you will be more prone to over eating. Taht will kill any of your weight loss goals.

I can't go without breakfast! While I usually just have cereal, I like to make eggs as often as possible to start the day off in a healthy way. Do you have the results of the poll?
