Wok Your Weight Away
This past week, while making my normal run around the cafeteria, I happened upon the Action station. This is an interactive station where you are allowed to select the type and amount of ingredients and then watch as it is prepared for you.I was so thrilled with my calorie-friendly choices that I could barely wait to share them with you. And, as usual, my mind tends to expand on the ideas when I sleep. This has led to some interesting thoughts. READ MORE...
How many of you remember fondue pots? This used to be the craze when I was young. Whether it was a meat and vegetable fondue using cooking oil, bread and fruit fondue using cheese or a dessert fondue using fruits and cake dipped in chocolate, they provided interactive fun and camaraderie among friends and family.
So, I was thinking, why not come up with a healthy version of interactive food. This can be used for family gatherings, parties with friends or even at work get-togethers.
What about a Wok Party? Wok cooking is done relatively quickly and uses very little fluid. It seals in the flavors and the nutrients of the fruits and vegetables and makes the meal quite tasty. Very little oil is used when quickly turning and stirring the ingredients in a very hot pan and is commonly referred to as “stir-frying” or, in the Chinese culture, the chao (chow) method.
Here we go! Plan the festivities by having each person bring one or more of the stir-fry ingredients. Set out some cereal size bowls and, buffet style, line up an attractive array of food selections. Let your imagination run wild; the possibilities are endless!
Each person can then fill their bowl with their favorite ingredients and then watch in amazement, as their meal is prepared to their specifications! It’s not only healthy, but addresses the needs of vegetarians and meat lovers alike. It shows you care about meeting the needs and tastes of each guest and is a way for them to feel quite special. As for the wok master, you may be able to take turns being the wok chef or allow the person who normally claims the outside grilling duties to try their hand at wok cooking.
