I like to walk, however after walking for a while my legs go numb. Today I walked about 1 1/2 miles with my dog. I walk daily, but the length varies. Could I substitute other exercises in place of walking daily???

dotj - Swimming is a remarkable activity because the water allows us to be buoyant, thus relieving the stress on our joints; yet the water provides us with resistance where we get a great return for our effort. Bicycling also uses our legs but is not as jarring as walking. With your legs going numb, you may want to check with your physician and make sure there is not an underlying cause that may need to be addressed. Thank you for asking your question and best wishes .. Ranae

Losing 25 pounds in a 5 months can be done but I would highly suggest that at 13 years of age, you enlist the support and guidance of your parent and/or physician. That said, making healthier choices of fresh fruits and vegetables, lean meats, low fat dairy and whole grains/pastas will help. Here is the website of the National Institutes of Health for Teens .. this information is most useful and targeted to your age range to teach you how to eat and exercise in a healthy manner. Thank you for joining us and for asking your question. Hope you find this link helpful http://win.niddk.nih.gov/publications/take_charge.htm
