Do You Have A Gladiator Inside You?
As I watched the movie, “Gladiator”, there was a respect and a burning desire in my heart for the courage, strength and fortitude shown by Maximus! How he overcame the adversity of losing his family and rising to triumph over an emperor was breathtaking and inspiring! What goes through your mind when you think of a gladiator? Do you think of the qualities a gladiator must possess; do you envision him standing triumphantly before a crowd cheering him on to victory? Do you briefly wonder about the course his life has taken and what twist of fate brought him to the arena? Are you silently thankful you did not live during the time of this barbaric sport? READ MORE... The majority of these muscle bound gladiators were unwilling souls, taken against their will and forced to train under the whip and cruelty of the taskmaster. Did you ever stop to wonder if the taskmaster was truly cruel or merely an unwilling participant himself? Could his actions possibly have been those of compassion, wanting only to train each gladiator to their fullest potential and prepare them for the battle to come?
Can you imagine the initial fear and what they must have felt as they slowly began to understand they had to fight if they were to survive? Any qualms or misgivings in their abilities had to be removed from their minds. They had to believe in themselves and commit to train with all their might in order to live.
Now lets see what happens if we apply that gladiator spirit to our weight loss efforts. What do you suppose we are capable of accomplishing?
First, we must envision our success and remove any fears of failure. We must believe we will be victorious.
Second, we must stop worrying about what brought us to this point in time and forgive ourselves for what happened in the past. We are here and we can only move forward and shape our future.
Third, we must push ourselves physically and begin to realize that our strength far exceeds the limits our mind has established.
Fourth, while we are all battling privately, we must train together in an effort to make us strong! Physically and mentally, we are stronger together than we are alone.
Fifth, when setbacks occur, as they will from time to time, summon your courage, implement a spirit of willingness and be creative to find new ways to overcome adversity.
Sixth, in doing the very best you can do, you are preparing yourself to receive the victory that comes from hard work and determination.
Seventh, in applying these lessons, you are securing your health, your future and your life! You can, and will realize your goals, your hopes and your dreams!
We will be your taskmaster, propelling you onward and encouraging you to push yourself beyond your fears and your imagined limitations. While we will not apply the whip, we will challenge you physically with exercise and journaling and emotionally with new thoughts and behaviors. We do so with the compassion of a taskmaster so you will survive and be the best you can be.
Now, imagine your life as a weight loss gladiator and envision your success! Visualize yourself standing strong, lean and victorious amid a crowd of people cheering for you and rejoicing in your victory! Open your mind to all of life’s possibilities, implement and benefit from your hard work and stay engaged with your teammates. Your triumph is at hand!!!

I can identify with the Gladiator because I didn't choose to be here. My whole live changed in that moment that that transport truck driver took so many lives in his hands when he failed to pay attention one foggy morning... and I can identify with it again as those gladiators are whiped into being... because I have a pain tolerane of about 15 min when standing so in order to exercize it is not just a problem of motivation... I have to dig deep for the energy and the endorphins that will help me through it. Is anyone else in that same situation? Would love to hear what you do to persavere. Cheers, J. JSpring
