Carpe Diem – Seize the Day!
It’s 3:30 a.m. and, as I sit here in the quiet of the early morning hours, my thoughts float easily through the seasons of my life and I reminisce over the past, live and experience today and, God willing, wonder of all the beauty and possibilities the future holds in store. How did I live so long in darkness and an obese body? What was it that has brought me to this place? Is there a way to help anyone else find the enlightenment I’ve been blessed with? For 51 years, I lived in mediocrity. The emotions I failed to acknowledge were fed with food and, slowly and steadily, I donned an armor of fat that allowed me to keep the world at bay. At the time, I had so wanted my life to be different but felt powerless to change it. Why couldn’t I be like others? Why was the world so cruel? Thoughts of “if only …” constantly played through my mind and I felt as though life was not fair and had somehow been unkind to me. READ MORE... Then, there came a moment of awakening, an epiphany that changed my life. As I was given the gift of seeing my value through the eyes of others, I found the value in myself I had lost.
During this time, a very dear friend shared this Nelson Mandela quote with me, “Our worst fear is not that we are inadequate; our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, “Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous?” Actually, who are you not to be?” As I pondered the last two lines, I began to realize that the only person who was standing in my way was me. If I were to have the life I desired, I would need to summon the courage to face my fears and triumph over them.
My mind opened to new possibilities, new thoughts, and I entered a period of self-searching and self-evaluation. Questions beginning with “how” and “why” were ever present and I searched my being for understanding. The knowledge that was gained brought forth forgiveness and paved the way for change.
Our success is brought about by changing our expectations to those of success and creating value within ourselves. We must accept the responsibility for where we are and set our hearts right because we all have the ability to live the life we dream.
You can lose weight, you can redefine your relationship with food and you can succeed! You can and must believe in you!!!
Surround yourself with caring, loving support and allow the kindness of others to uphold you while you learn to care for yourself. Actively participate in an Internet support community and make the commitment that quitting is NOT an option! Implement a “can do” attitude and start by taking the baby steps necessary to implement change.
Life keeps moving forward and there is no reason to lament about the unfulfilled dreams of yesterday, as there is no going back. There is value in looking at the past objectively because the difficulties and obstacles of those days can help us to understand and change our behaviors for today.
Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow. – Anonymous
You’re the only one who can make the difference; you are blessed with the power of choice. Seize today to write down your goals and your dreams and then go for it! Step away from mediocrity and claim the extraordinary life you envision. Life is infinitely rich and beautiful and you deserve to be the best you can be.
